Dr. Katie Butrica
Dr. Katie Butrica studied Animal Science at UC Davis in 2017 and returned to UC Davis to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. She was born and raised in Ceres and Modesto and is excited to be back home helping the pets and people of her community.
Dr. Katie developed a passion for animals and science at a young age and wanted to be a veterinarian by the time she was seven. Her parents adopted a German Shepherd-Labrador puppy named Bernard the day she was born, and pets have remained a huge part of her life. She’s had cats, dogs, rabbits, Guinea pigs, and a turtle. In addition, Dr. Katie rode horses for physical therapy starting as a toddler, participated in veterinary science competitions with the Central Valley High School FFA, and volunteered at the California Raptor Center and the Oakland Zoo during college. Prior to starting veterinary school, Dr. Katie received a crash course in emergency medicine working as a receptionist and technician assistant at Taylor Veterinary Hospital in Turlock.
Dr. Katie loves to learn and try new things. She has a special place in her heart for preventative medicine and looks forward to caring for her community’s pets from babyhood to end of life. Dr. Katie currently treats cats and dogs, but she is learning the ropes of exotics care with Dr. Barrett’s mentorship and hopes to see more of them on her own very soon.
